The Jewish value of gemilut chasadim (loving kindness) is a driving force behind the important work of our Social Action Committee (SAC), which coordinates many programs. Overview of Programs
- Backpack Drive: Donate backpacks and essential school supplies like binders, notebooks, pencils, and more which are organized in bundles and given to foster children in the community.
- Food Drive: Donate food, which we collect and give to Sacred Heart Community Service during the High Holy Days and a few other times throughout the year.
- Blood Drive: Give blood multiple times throughout the year with our on-site blood donation events, which help provide this critical resource to healthcare providers.
- Mitzvah Day: Give time and effort on this major community service day with hundreds of participating members and youth from our congregation engaging in a multitude of service opportunities.
- Healthy Living Fair: Provide medical expertise and language expertise (especially in Spanish) during this important annual event serving underserved members of the community with general, dental, optical, and other health screenings and on-site care.
- Project Cornerstone: Connecting interested volunteers with this program to read with elementary school classrooms in underserved local schools.
Funding
In 2018, the Esther Young Wedner Fund for Social Justice was established through a generous grant to support all activities under the social justice umbrella.
