Project Cornerstone

About

Through a member of our congregation who serves on the Campbell school board, we learned about a local school with a large at-risk population that needed readers for their Project Cornerstone program. This program involves adults coming in to the classroom once-a-month to read a story that illustrates an important value, and leading a discussion or art project about the value after reading.

Project Cornerstone

Shir Hadash is lucky to have many teachers and other school personnel, as well as parents and grandparents who have great verbal and reading skills as part of our community. These skills among our congregants make Shir Hadash a great match for finding volunteers to fill the need at local Campbell schools with a great need for adults able to lead the Project Cornerstone lessons once-a-month.

You may be familiar with Cornerstone from your children's schools. The books and lesson plans are already chosen and detailed teaching materials are available online, making the program simple and convenient to implement for the volunteers! You get to pick your grade level and work with the elementary school teacher to set up a schedule for monthly visits during the school year of about an hour per visit.

How to Get Involved

There are openings for Cornerstone readers for the school year 2019-2020! Please contact Rabbi Aron if you are interested or want more information.
