Mitzvah Day

About

Each year around Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, adults and children from the Shir Hadash community participate in a Mitzvah Day focusing on a variety of projects for the benefit of the temple and local communities. Sample activities from years past include making and serving meals to the homeless, making blankets for those in need, park clean-up, and a Habitat for Humanity project. These photos are from Mitzvah Day 2019.

Mitzvah Day 2023 is Sunday, January 15th

Pitch In On A Project for Mitzvah Day 2023

Please join this community-wide, congregational event. We will have several large events that enable us to engage in communal acts of gemilut chasadim (loving-kindness), tikkun olam (repairing the world), and shomrei adamah (guarding the earth). We will be beautifying our environment through

  • park cleanup (9:00 am start time)
  • creating “Compassion Kits” for distribution to the homeless and under-housed
  • baking/cooking in the CSH kitchen for members of our community who are infirm/housebound.

We encourage all congregants and families to sign up for one of these events. If you are unable to attend one of the planned communal activities, we strongly encourage you to engage in Mitzvah Day by contributing to a charity whose cause is personally meaningful to you. Look for the registration in January!
