Please join us tonight for a special evening together. Doors will open at 6:30pm for some nosh and mingling, followed by Havdalah. Lois Fried is a local Jewish Poet who lives with her family in Foster City.

Lois will be joining Shir Hadash Women to read from her first book of poetry, So Great the Journey, published in 2023. Her poems reflect her life from the small east central Texas town of Brenham to her transition to cosmopolitan life in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her poems are rich with stories and lessons about the land and community that she depended upon for survival as a young girl growing up in the segregated South.

Lois holds hands with the brave, devoted family where she learned to understand the meaning of her Blackness. She beautifully embraces her Jewish life with poems of praise and gratitude. She shares her love of nature with descriptive imagery about the land, waters, and wildlife around her.
