Shir Hadash Women: The Beginning of Something New!

On December 17th, 45 women gathered together to celebrate Shir Hadash Women (SHW) and the Beginning of Something New. We enjoyed delicious charcuterie boards and bubbly beverages.

We each met someone new and then introduced one another to the group. We learned that many of us are from outside of California and especially New York, find chocolate and pizza the most favorite comfort food and some of us even have a collection of T-shirts or yarn.

We gathered in small groups where we envisioned SHW as a caring, inviting, safe and supportive group of friendly women where we engage and enjoy a variety of activities ranging from:

  • social (wine tasting, bocce ball, cooking, dining out, crafting) to
  • women’s religious and spiritual connections (Rosh Chodesh, Sisters at Services, music, dance, exercise, Tallit making, women authored book group) and
  • social action (Dignity Drive, Caravan for “Bring Them Home”, mentorship).

The afternoon concluded with raffle prizes, and each woman left with butterfly seed paper quoting the Talmud, “Every blade of grass has an angel in the heavens that says to it, “Grow!” Learn more about Shir Hadash Women.

Rosh Chodesh (Head of the Month)

In January, Shir Hadash Women celebrated Rosh Chodesh Shevat with a wonderful Tu B’shvat Seder. Led by Robyn Stone, 15 women gathered on January 10th to experience this unique seder, many for the very first time.

Shir Hadash Women celebrating Rosh Chodesh Shevat with a Tu B’shvat Seder Following the cycle of the moon, Rosh Chodesh occurs monthly and can bring renewal and opportunities for re-committing to our deepest selves.

Shir Hadash Women join together each month to study, reflect and carry with us various topics in Judaism and in everyday life as women. Please join for upcoming Rosh Chodesh events, including Rosh Chodesh Adar Bet in March and Rosh Chodesh Nissan in April! RSVP and learn more by emailing Vicki at vickischnitzer1@gmail.com.
