Rosh Chodesh - Shir Hadash Women Gatherings!
Date: Apr 7, 2025
Author: Shir Hadash Women
Women of Shir Hadash gather to celebrate Rosh Chodesh (head of the month) close to each new moon. We situate ourselves in sacred space, time and community to dive into the flavors, themes, history and customs related to each month. Our next event will be on Saturday, April 26 - learn more and join us for Rosh Chodesh Iyar!
We use a mix of experiences: melodies, movement, texts, reflections, stories and blessings (and of course, food!). We create space for deep respectful connections, for raising our spirits, and for strengthening Jewish perspectives.
As an example, for Rosh Chodesh Nisan, the month of Spring and Passover, we enjoyed Hebrew songs of Spring, a Kavana (intention) for entering weeks of preparation for Passover, and a guided meditation regarding the internal chametz we need to release. After some guided mindful movement, we shared about what we are ready to release and what we are ready to receive. Our tradition is to then end with the musical blessing adapted by Marcia Falk for the new month.
Since Women of Shir Hadash revived programming, these gatherings have been facilitated by Robyn Stone, Sharla Kibel and Shirie Eshel. We welcome additional contributors and contributions and participants! As we lead our Rosh Chodesh gatherings, Shirie and Sharla aim to foster more a personal connection and friendship among Shir Hadash women.
