Act Now to Reduce Police Use of Deadly Force

About: A bill introduced in 2019 by Assemblymember Weber called AB 392 has a purpose to redefine the circumstances under which a homicide by a peace officer is deemed justifiable. The bill limits the reasons for which deadly force can be considered justifiable, to better protect the public from unnecessary and unreasonable use of deadly force.

How you can support AB 392

Make a Call! It only takes a minute of your time, but your voice as a constituent matters a lot. Please place a call to your state assemblymember and state senator for this California legislation.

Calls need to be made to Legislators in support of AB 392 (Peace Officers - Deadly Force)

1. Dial the phone number for your state assemblymember and state senator. Use this "Find Your Legislator" resource page to find the correct phone numbers to call.

2. Use this handy script below when talking to your legislator's office:

Hello! This is (your name) from (your city) and I am a constituent calling to urge you to support AB 392, CA Act to Save Lives.

AB 392 will update the use-of-force standard to allow police officers to use deadly force only when officers have no reasonable alternatives to prevent imminent death or bodily injury.

Stricter-use-of-force standards like AB 392 work to save lives, keep officers safe and protect the public. Seattle, for example, saw a reduction in the use of force incidents after adopting a use of force standard similar to the one in AB 392, without any negative impact officer safety or crime rates.

I urge you to support AB 392 with a Yes vote!

Thank you.
