Shanah Tovah,
Rosh Hashanah always catches us by surprise. Showing up with a shofar blast and a chorus of angels proclaiming, "Hinei Yom HaDin!" "The New Year is here - Judgement Day has arrived." An unexpected summons... So we stop, turn and listen to the arresting voice within and around us. (Rabbi Lewis Eron)
Intentions and Instructions
An intention (kavanah) from our clergy team:
“When the world feels stormy and out of order, we are deepening our roots. Amid the loneliness epidemic, we are deepening our roots. In the face of social injustice and moral bankruptcy, we are deepening our roots. In a time of information overload and thinner personal connection, we are deepening our roots.”
This year we’re leaning into Deepening Roots — מעמיקים את השורשים. Each of us is seeking grounding connections—with our own souls, with Torah and practice, with family, and with this community. Whether you’re new to Shir Hadash or here since the beginning, it’s always the right time to go deeper so we can grow higher.
Across the Days of Awe we’ll pray, sing, and study; we’ll do the work of Teshuva - of growth oriented reflection. We will strengthen our foundations so we can be grounded, and yet uplifted. Bring your joy, your pain, your voice…your kids, your parents, your neighbors. Let’s deepen our roots in community, and let’s keep elevating life with Jewish tradition.

This year we are reducing our footprint and yet we want to make sure that everyone feels connected as we go paperless. If you or someone you know needs a printed version of any of our communications please email tamar@shirhadash.org and let us know.
Elul Project: Deepening Roots
Roots are the foundation and the sustainment of life. Flourishing and reaching higher requires deep roots and so we invite you to engage weekly in our Elul Project- a great opportunity to reflect on the roots we have and we want to deepen.
Each week, beginning the week of August 25th, a prompt will be emailed inviting you to participate. Please add a word, a phrase, a text, a picture - your connection to our deepening roots - in the Sanctuary Lobby. Feel free to visit at your convenience during business hours or on Shabbat to participate.
We will gather as a community on Selichot, September 13 at 4:30pm, to share a moment of awe for the roots that weave us together as we complete our Elul Project.
