Speaker Rabbi Jerry Levy

Date: Sunday, November 14, 2010
Time: 10:45 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Oneg Room

We are especially pleased to invite you to join our Founding Rabbi, Jerry Levy, to explore spirituality and the essence of Jewish teaching through the use of photographic images.

The eye is used to observe the sacred and the camera to record that encounter in digital numbers trained to appreciate color, shape, form and composition. Rabbi Levy writes: "I capture images that contain within them qualities of beauty and the essence of the sacred… something extraordinary, a moment in time that is precious or rare, sublime in nature.”

In this lecture, Rabbi Levy will share over a hundred images that he has paired with the great spiritual teachings of Jewish life , similar to how the Torah and Haftarah portions are paired with each other. During his lecture, he will share these images with you in a projected presentation to illustrate his talk.

Afterwards, the group will discuss the images, the sacred elements of these moments, and practical ways for you to do the same with your digital or film camera.

Rabbi Levy hopes that you will discover your own potential to seek out, identify and preserve the sacred in your own lives.
