Community Yom HaShoah Memorial Service

Date: Sunday, April 11, 2010
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Sanctuary

Please join us for this special Community Service. Rabbis from all of our local congregations have been invited to participate in the service and a joint choir under the direction of Cantor Felder-Levy will participate.

Our theme this year will be "L'dor Vador - From Generation to Generation - Passing on the Legacy of the Holocaust"

Preceding the service, at 6:15 pm, there will be a special showing of “Blessed Is the Match”, the first documentary feature about Hannah Senesh, the World War II era poet and diarist who left the relative safety of British Mandate Palestine to paratroop behind Nazi lines to rescue the Jews of Hungary. With unprecedented access to the Senesh family archive, this powerful film tells this moving story through the writings and photographs of Hannah and her mother Catherine. We will be showing a special 50 minute version of the film, created by its director, especially for showings to middle school and high school students and their families. Following the film, there will be discussion organized by Silicon Valley Faces (the former NCCJ) which organizes Holocaust education for over 4,100 public school students each year.
