Congregation Shir Hadash
“We are born for community”
Shir Hadash is an evolving, vibrant, growing Reform Jewish congregation dedicated to providing a vital Jewish life, spiritual growth, and a sense of community for its members. Our name means “New Song,” and as a congregation we worship together through Song, Torah Study, and Community. Founded in 1980, our congregation now numbers more than 600 member families.
Congregation Shir Hadash is located in the heart of Silicon Valley at 20 Cherry Blossom Lane, Los Gatos, California, near the corner of Cherry Blossom Lane, just east of Los Gatos Boulevard, and just south of Blossom Hill Road. We are accessible by Highways 85 and 17. (Map & Directions)
At Shir Hadash we have hold a variety of services, each with their own style. Our members love to sing, and our services include music reflecting a wide range of composers and musical styles appropriate to each service.
Early Childhood Center
The Shir Hadash Early Childhood Center is a fully licensed program that opened its doors for the 2009–2010 school year. The preschool is open to all families in the community. Membership in Congregation Shir Hadash is not required.
Our Religious School is a cornerstone of our Temple life. We have classes for ages Pre-K through 6th grade on Sunday mornings, 7th–10th grade on Tuesday evenings, 11th–12th grade on Sundays, as well as Hebrew classes and B’nai Mitzvah training on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. We encourage students to begin their religious training in Kindergarten and to start Hebrew classes in the 3rd grade in preparation for B’nai Mitzvah training later on. We have a family-oriented educational program so we have numerous opportunities for parents to participate in the learning process on Sunday mornings. For more information, see Religious School.
Our active adult education programs reflect the rich diversity of our community. We regularly hold classes in Hebrew, Introduction to Judaism, Torah Study, Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, and Life cycle and Holiday celebrations. We host a Sunday morning lecture series on historical and cultural topics, and have special Saturday evening programs on the arts. For more information, see Adult Education.
The members of Shir Hadash come from many different backgrounds. We welcome the Non-Jewish partners of our members. We have a special membership option for young adults 35 years old and younger.
